Dear Licensee,
Please find the U.S. NRC Information Notice 2011-11, "Reporting Requirement for Heat and Smoke Detector Failures in 10 CFR Part 36 Irradiators". This notice contains regulatory requirements and clarifications of the regulations for reporting failures of either smoke or heat detection systems when there are no redundant equipment safety systems in place to perform the required function. The Illinois equivalent regulations for reporting the failures can be found in 32 Ill. Admin. Code 340.1220(c) (2) (NRC equivalent 10 CFR 30.50(b) (2)). The Illinois equivalent regulations requiring irradiator facilities to be equipped with smoke and heat detection systems can be found in 32 Ill. Admin. Code 346.270 (NRC equivalent 10 CFR 36.27).
